“I have two young children with PANS. We have been on this difficult journey for 4 years. In January 2017, my fearless, independent, joy filled daughter Emmalyn changed overnight after her very first strep infection at the age of 2. She developed severe OCD, anxiety, hyperactivity, involuntary movements, and sensory issues we had never seen before. She suddenly had intense rage and became very defiant. It was as if she was a different child. We took her to her pediatrician and were told that these were age-appropriate behaviors and that her tics would go away on their own. I left feeling helpless because I knew there had to be a reason for such an extreme change. As time went by, I began to notice a pattern. The changes would occur after having strep or other illnesses. I wondered if there was a correlation and began to research. This is when I stumbled upon a blog online written by a mother of a child with PANDAS. Emmalyn had every single symptom and I was convinced this was what we were dealing with. Unfortunately, our concerns were dismissed by our pediatrician and it took us nearly another two years of advocating before we could get a proper diagnosis. We had several periods of remission, however this past March, we noticed how much PANS was beginning to affect Emmalyn’s academic abilities and her everyday life. At the same time, our younger son Ezra, began displaying similar symptoms of OCD, eating restrictions, and separation anxiety. While it was disheartening to realize both of our children had the same disorder, we had hope that God would guide us to the right doctor. During this time, we got word that Dr. Gazda was treating PANDAS/PANS kids in San Antonio and we are beyond blessed to now be under her care. Both Dr. Gazda and NP Hayley Miller have a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience in this very complex disorder. They knew what tests we needed and fought for us to have the recommended treatment. They genuinely care and have been very supportive to myself and other families struggling with PANDAS/PANS. Our children are finally beginning to heal and we have more hope than ever that they will fully recover.” ~ Andrea
"Diagnosed in 2005 and after several doctors, treatments, and numerous ER visits, an ER nurse recommended Dr. Gazda. She mentioned her daughter was in the best care with Dr Gazda and she knew Dr. Gazda would definitely help my situation. At that point, I had already lost hope and exhausted many avenues. When I met Dr. Gazda in 2007 she assured me that she was going to take great care of me, she stopped the current treatments I was on and re-evaluated my situation. She has seen me through my lowest point in life. I have used wheelchairs, walkers, and canes, been in a rehabilitation hospital and she never lost hope in me. I had almost 10 years without a relapse and Dr. Gazda still kept her eye on me. I would not be where I am today without my renewed faith along with her expertise and compassion. My family and I trust in her care completely and are blessed to have found her." ~Jennifer "As a patient facing MS, I didn’t know who or where to go for treatment of this disease and more importantly, people who would become my support team helping me make the right decisions. Dr. Gazda provides an individual approach for each patient. When a question or concern arises, a quick response is delivered and the patient care is impeccable. My journey is one that will end in success simply because Dr. Gazda is my core leading to good health." ~Dawn "Dr. Gazda has been the best doctor I have ever had! I say this because I come from a family of doctors who love medicine, as much as she does. Her best quality is her compassion for her patients. She takes the time to answer the questions until the patient understands the answers. I can e-mail her anytime and she gets back to me quickly. I have total confidence in her decision in regards to my care. " ~Magda |
"Dr. Gazda has literally saved my life! By thinking outside the box, she was able to diagnose what was actually wrong and work with me towards fixing it while other doctors just tried to pile on unnecessary prescription drugs without caring to fix the problem. So thankful to have found her!” ~Angela
"I feel so blessed to have been referred to Dr Gazda. It's great to have a diagnosis to explain feeling poorly for 4-5 years. Also, since starting a treatment regime, I have not had a sinus or ear infection or bronchitis, which had all been chronic previously." ~Barbara "Since on or about November 1996, my experience relating to medical care from Dr. Suzanne K. Gazda can only be characterized as having a true friend who is an ethical professional human being that has consistently showed a careful interest in attaining improvement in quality of life for her patients. I feel blessed to be in her care to date & I can't reiterate my appreciation enough." ~Jay "Dr. Gazda is the ideal physician: compassionate, knowledgeable and soothing. I feel like she goes through every effort to make my care very personal and optimized. I am truly blessed to have her in my life." ~Eddie I was talking to Keith this evening about how lucky we both are to have you as our doctor! I was feeling so horrible and hopeless for so many years when I first came to you and really felt there was no hope for ever feeling better. So many doctors I’ve seen have just ignored my symptoms and never bothered to figure out what was really going on with my health. Thank you for taking the extra time, doing extra tests and getting me on the right track with diet and suppliments. Even Keith feels better with our new diet. Although I continue to battle the fibromyalgia and back pain, it’s no where as severe and debilitating as it was and I now feel like I have it under control. I truly believe that Lyme disease, bad diet and gut issues were aggravating all my symptoms. You said I would get better and you were right!! Thank you again for listening and caring. ~Jamie |
