A look at long COVID,
today and tomorrow.

The last few years have made it even more critical for us to be aware of developments in healthcare. And right now, we are seeing a tsunami of autoimmune issues after a COVID infection and post-COVID vaccine. Given that virtually all diseases are inflammatory in origin, including multiple sclerosis and other neurological conditions, it’s especially worrisome to consider the implications.

If you’ve been following along with our regularly updated long COVID series, we’ve discussed in detail the role of immune dysregulation and molecular mimicry as just two of the diverse mechanisms involved in spike-induced disease. These processes have been identified in ongoing research as significant contributors to this novel disorder and why finding the best treatments for each patient can be very elusive.

As I have noted in my ongoing long COVID series, the impacts to the brain post infection and post-vaccine injury can have long lingering neurological consequences. The symptoms may vary from mild to significant, regardless of the severity of the original illness. And while each patient may have different needs unique to their individual symptoms, the scientific community and clinicians are continuing to identify ways to address and treat these impacts.

As I have noted in my ongoing long COVID series, the impacts to the brain post infection and post vaccine injury can have long lingering neurological impacts and  can vary from mild to more severe symptoms regardless of the severity of the original illness.  In this recent study, a team looked at the range of issues and how the use of neuroimaging might aid in identifying the neurotropic behavior of SARS-CoV-2 and the regions of the brain most affected, both directly and indirectly by the disease.

In “A Case Report: Multifocal Necrotizing Encephalitis and Myocarditis after BNT162b2 mRNA Vaccination against COVID-19,” details are described regarding a 76-year-old male patient with a history of Parkinson’s disease, post-COVID vaccination. After a few short months, having received a series of three vaccines, it was reported that he died and at which time the family requested an autopsy.

As we’ve been discussing for quite some time, more evidence mounts that points to the incidence of long COVID as a worldwide, mass-disabling event. And it’s become equally apparent that the neurological impacts are vast and profound, even in cases where the original COVID-19 infection seemed relatively mild and is compounded by the incidence of post-vaccine injuries as well.
